The Iron King by Julie Kagawa.
This book, you guys.
This book.
I've already finished the second book which I will be reviewing later on.
I highly recommend this novel.
The plot is fairly fast paced, not extremely quick, but it is fast enough so that you don't get bored or want to put it down.
The writing style is one of my favorite parts of the book. It is well-written but it isn't complicated. Her descriptions are gorgeous and they paint pictures of the world and the characters perfectly. I felt as if I was watching a movie in my mind. Sometimes descriptions in general can take away from a story because they don't sound like the main character character is talking (it sounds more like a poet took over the main character's body), but Julie Kagawa managed to make the descriptions beautiful while maintaining the character's voice and personality.
Unfortunately, the plot was spoiled for me because: a) internet b) I accidentally started reading the last book instead of the first book. I got two chapters in and... now I know what happens in the end of book three. Oh well.
Despite the fact that the plot was spoiled for me, there were still plenty of twists that surprised me. I was sure that I would know everything that was going to happen right off the bat, but I didn't. Julie Kagawa kept me on my toes the entire time.
I love her characters. Meghan didn't annoy me at all in this book (and I hope she continues to not annoy me in the rest of the series). For once once the main character finds out that she's from a different world or dimension or etc... she doesn't just accept it! She actually freaked out and had trouble understand and accepting the idea like an actual human being! I also loved Puck and Ash (but I'm definitely "Team" Ash). Puck is hilarious and rebellious and adorable. Ash is mysterious and brooding and drool-worthy. I also loved the supporting characters - not one of the people mentioned didn't interest me.
Obviously I recommend this book. Check it out! It's thrilling and adventurous and so many other adjectives that I can't think of right now.
I'll definitely review the rest of the books in the series once I'm done.
Hope you enjoyed! I'll talk to y'all soon.

Well, not exactly.
It's my twitter, but I will be updating you guys on the books I'm reading, new posts, future posts to expect, random personal updates, etc...
So, y'all should go follow me.
I have a lot of posts planned for the future and I've been reading a ton of books lately.
I also have been contemplating Booktubing. For all of you who don't know what that is, Booktubers are people who make YouTube videos, but about books. BookTube.
I've been watching YouTube for a long time, and the first person I ever watched was CassJayTuck (a booktuber). Ever since I started watching her I knew that someday I wanted to start posting content. Hence the reason I started this blog.
But now I want to start making book reviews... on video.
I wouldn't abandon my blog - I love this place! I just want to expand and try that, too.
We'll see what happens, but for now I'll stick to writing my reviews instead of saying them to a camera.
I love you guys, and thank you for sticking with me!
Go follow my twitter account and all of my other social media sites listed below.
Have a great day!

BookTube-A-Thon Update #7 - IT'S THE END.

Well, yesterday was the last day of BookTube-A-Thon.
And I didn't even start Beautiful Creatures.
I almost finished The Serpent's Shadow, but I didn't quite make it.
So, I read four and 3/4 books during the readathon!

Now, let's do a page count.
I read Ettiquette&Espionage which was 307 pages.
Then I read Angel which was 291 pages.
Next I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which was 320 pages.
And lastly I read 291 pages of The Serpent's Shadow before the readathon ended.
My total page count is... 1,119 pages!
I'm actually really proud of myself. I pushed myself and got out of my reading slump! Woohoo!
Goals I achieved:
Reread a book
Read two books that you started but never finished
And I almost completed the finish a series challenge.
How did you guys do? Did you reach your goals?
Lemme know down in the comments below!
Talk to you soon! Byee! :)

BookTube-A-Thon Update #6

Hey, guys!
What's that I hear? PROGRESS!
That's right, you heard me. PROGRESS HAPPENED.
I finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for the reread challenge... And let's just say, when BookTube-A-Thon is over, I'll be rereading the rest of the series with a box of chocolate and tissues *sob*.
Anyhoo, I'm reading The Serpent's Shadow now and I'll be finishing that tonight. I didn't get as far as I wanted to today, though. I was planning on finishing The Serpent's Shadow and then moving on to Beautiful Darkness, but still, PROGRESS OCCURRED AND I'M SUPER HAPPY.
I probably won't complete all the challenges by the time BookTube-A-Thon ends, but who says I can't continue doing the challenges after it's over?
If I can't finish listening to the audiobook of This is What Happy Looks Like, and if I can't finish Dacid Copperfield for my classic choice, I'll definitely continue to read them into next week.
I'm so glad I did BookTube-A-Thon this week. It's helped me get out of my reading slump and get off the internet so much.
Not to say I'm not on the internet a lot anymore (I definitely am surfing the web a lot) but I've learned how to manage my time better and that I can make way more time for reading than I thought I could, while still making time for internet, TV, friends, family, etc... (Wow, I'm sure that was a run-on sentence.) It's all about the time management skills and saying no to distractions.
I guess that's what got me into my reading slump in the first place, and I'm extremely grateful that I'm out of it.
Now that we've got that interesting deep, soul-repleneshing discussion out of the way, I'll leave you to your reading bookworms! Tell me how your progress has been in the comments below! Talk to you soon! Good luck reading! :)

BookTube-A-Thon Update #5

Hello, book nerds!
Today... was a fail... again. I was crazy busy and I lost track of time and... here we are. Barely any progress.
I plan on finishing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone tonight, and then possibly starting The Serpent's Shadow. I wanna finish that tomorrow and get started on Beautiful Darkness.
These past two days have just been waaaaay more busy than usual!
I plan on catching up on a bunch of reading though, so it's okay!
Tell me how y'all are doing. We're in the last few days of BookTube-A-Thon - what challenges have you completed and which ones do you still have to complete?
Talk to y'all later! Bye!

Booktube-A-Thon Update #4

Hey, guys!
Yesterday was not a fantastic reading day for me.
Instead of reading The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan, I decided to reread Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling, and then I was going to start reading The Serpent's Shadow.
I ended up reading 120 pages of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and then I went to bed. And during the day, I listened to about 30 minutes of my audiobook of This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith...
Yeah, it was not a productive book reading day!
And today probably won't be either because my friend and I are going to an amusement park in an hour, and I accidentally slept in... The last two days have not been book days for me... But I will succeed!
I'm falling in love with the Harry Potter books again (not that I ever fell out of love with them, but I haven't read them in a while).
So yeah, lemme know how y'all are doing! Talk to you tomorrow!

Booktube-A-Thon Update #3

Hello, lovelies!
Yesterday I finished Angel by James Patterson and I really enjoyed it considering that his last few books in the series weren't quite up to par. Except for Dylan. Creepy Dylan. I'll hopefully have reviews of the books I'm reading for Booktube-A-Thon up soon.
Today, I am going to read The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan to finish a series, and then hopefully start Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling for my reread.
I'm super pumped! Maybe I'll listen to my audiobook in between?
Lemme know how y'all are doing! Byeee!

Booktube-A-Thon Update #2

Hello, my fellow readers!
I finished Ettiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger last night so expect a review soon! Next will be reading Angel by James Patterson next, with audiobook listening inbetween. My audiobook for This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith is over eight hours long. EIGHT HOURS LONG.
I've gotta admit, I'm a little worried that I won't be able to finish my challenges, especially since I have that super long audiobook to complete and David Copperfield, which is over 700 pages with fine print.
NO. No backing down! I will not quit and I will succeed!
Haha, giving myself a little pep talk there.
Now tell me, how are y'all doing with the challenges and the reading? Keep me posted!

Booktube-A-Thon Update #1

Heeeeey there!
This is turning out to be more difficult than I expected!
I've gotten about 123 pages in to Ettiquette and Espionage and I'm loving it so far but I'm gonna keep plowing through so that I can reach the 300 page mark by the end of today!
Hopefully I'll achieve my goal! How are y'all doin so far?
Keep me posted and keep reading!

Hello, my lovely readers!
I am taking place in the awesomely exciting Booktube-A-Thon and today is the first day! It's a readathon for booktubers, but everyone is encouraged to join in so I thought "Why on earth not?!"
The Booktube-A-Thon was created by Ariel Bissett (ArielBissett on YouTube)  and Raeleen Lemay padfootandprongs07 on YouTube)
Here are links to their YouTube channels:
Here are their videos that introduce and give you more information about Booktube-A-Thon:
Ariel's video:
Raeleen's video:
Basically, Booktube-A-Thon is a week to read as many books as you possibly can, and complete some challenges that have been chosen by the fantastic creators of this event!
Here are the challenges:
1) read an average of 300 pages a day
2) read a book with over 500 pages
3) re-read one book
4) finish a series/trilogy
5) read a book that's been on your shelf forever
6) listen to an audiobook
7) read a classic

I've also added my own challenge which is:
8) read two books that you started, but didn't finish
Here are the books I'll be reading for the Booktube-A-Thon and what challenge it completes:
I'll be reading David Copperfield by Charles Dickens which takes care challenge number 7, and it could take care of challenge 2, but I am using a different book for that one. I'm super excited about this book!
I will also be reading Angel by James Patterson and Ettiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger to complete the challenge that I created.
Next, as my re-read I will be reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I just can't wait to re-read this book - it's been too long.
To finish a series/trilogy, I will be reading The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan. I loved the first two books and can't wait to read the second!
For the "read a book that's been on your shelf forever" and the "read a book over 500 pages" challenges, I'll be reading Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. I don't know why I haven't read this yet but I've had it FOREVER.
To finish challenge number 6, I'll be listening to This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith. I have been wanting to read this and I am so excited!
I'll hopefully be reading 300 pages per day, but we'll see and my ultimate word count is... drum roll please... 2,951 pages! I've gotta admit, I'm extremely intimidated, but this is all in good fun so I think I'll have a good time doing it!
Y'all should join the challenges too because it's a whole lot of fun and keep me posted!
If you want to follow the twitter page of the Booktube-A-Thon, here's the link: I, personally, don't have a twitter. I'm still trying to convince my parents to let me get one (love you Mommy and Daddy!) but I still go to the page and look at the updates to see how everyone is doing and it's super, super awesome.
I'll be posting updates everyday on how I'm doing, so stay tunes for those! Love ya! Byeeee!

Saturday, May 4, 2013

Hello, lovelies!
I buy books whenever I possibly can. I have to buy them online nowadays, though, because we do not have a bookstore in my town.
I know. It makes me sad too.
Anyhoo, I always watch Booktubers doing book hauls on YouTube and it looks super fun, so I figured, "Why not do one on your blog?"
If you wanna see what books I've purchased in the past few weeks, keep reading.
1. The Elite by Kiera Cass
I am so excited to read this! The Selection was AMAZING and I'm hooked on the trilogy. I'll try to do a review as soon as I finish!

2. Etiquette & Espionage by Gail Carriger
As soon as I read the synopsis I HAD to buy it! I am super duper excited to read this! It kind of reminds me of The Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter (just cause it is a spy school).

3. Beautiful Redemption by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Still need to read both Beautiful Darkness and Beautiful Chaos (both of which I own). I loved Beautiful Creatures though!

4. Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare
I loved Clockwork Angel, and Clockwork Prince is on my READ SOON list, so I can't wait!

5. Looking for Alaska by John Green
I probably won't get to this for a while because I want to read Paper Towns first and then An Abundance of Katherines and THEN Looking for Alaska. (High-five to all you fellow
                                                        Nerdfighters out there!)

6. Prodigy by Marie Lu
I ADORED Legend so I am super excited for this read. Marie Lu is an amazing author!

So many books to read, so little time!
Have a lovely day, my bookworms!

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan - WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO READ THIS?!?!

You know that moment when you buy a book because you've heard so many good things about it, and you keep buying each book that comes out in the series, but you never get around to reading any of them?
Yeah, that's what happened to me with this series.
I had heard so many ravings about it from some of my favorite BookTubers - and honestly, I didn't expect anything short of amazing from Rick Riordan. After reading the Percy Jackson series and reading the first two books of the Kane Chronicles, I knew that this series would be fantastic too.
I thought I knew EXACTLY what was going to happen in this book and it did not happen. Nope. Rick Riordan surprised me so many times while I was reading this book I almost exploded a few times.
The plot was great, as per usual and the writing style... Oh my word the writing style. Rick Riordan has this way of painting pictures in your mind and writing beautifully, but it is to the point and each character's point of view has a different writing style. Each POV really connects you with the character and you don't feel detached.
Rick Riordan is an evil, evil, evil, clever man. I'm actually kinda glad that I didn't read the books a few years ago. You know why? BECAUSE THEN I WOULD HAVE HAD TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOKS. AFTER CLIFFHANGERS. WHY RICK RIORDAN WHY. Well, I still have to wait for House of Hades... but I have to read The Son of Neptune and Mark of Athena first.
Oopsies. Got off track.
In all, I highly recommend reading this amazing book written by Rick Riordan.
And, Rick Riordan, if you're reading this (which you most likely aren't), KEEP ON BEING SUCH AN EVIL, CLEVER MAN. Even though your twists and cliff hangers cause my soul pain, it makes your books fantastic. Thanks for writing such amazng series.
Talk to you all later! :)
